Vacancies

If you are responsible for a building then it is a legal requirement for you carry out of a assessment of the premesis for the risk of fire.

What is a Fire Risk Assessment?

A Fire Risk Assessment is an assessment of your premises to determine the risk of fire, and what steps have been put in place to mitigated the risk. If five or more people work at your premises or your business has a licence under enactment in force, you’ll need your fire risk assessment to be documented and available for inspection.

How are they carried out?

The Risk Assessment starts with an assessor carrying out a site visit for information gathering purposes. At this time the assessor will need to speak to a designated site contact to obtain information and evidence of maintenance of systems and measures, certificates etc, as well as making their own observations and recommendations on housekeeping, building structure etc.  The information is then collated off-site and a full report generated. If there are any recommendations coming out of the assessment then these will be prioritised by severity and likelihood of occurrence, and will form the basis of a ‘to do’ list that the premises owner will need to address in order to become compliant.

Do I need a Fire Risk Assessment?

Everyone must have carried out a fire safety risk assessment, however, if you employ more than 5 people or your business has members of the public on-site then you must have your fire risk assessment documented and available for inspection by the authorities.
