Fire extinguishers form a large part of your overall fire fighting and fire prevention strategy, especially within a business. We can provide advice, supply, install and service your extinguishers.

Portable fire fighting equipment used to extinguish fires and aid egress from buildings. Extinguishers are designed to tackle specific classes of fire. the classes are detailed below:

  • Class B: Liquid fires (Oil, solvents petrol etc)
  • Class C: Gas fires
  • Class D: Metal fires
  • Class F: Specialist liquid fire (deep fat fryers, cooking oils)
  • Electrical: Safe for use on electrical fires

Below is a list of  common extinguisher types, along with what types of fire they are designed to extinguish:

  • Water (class A)
  • AFFF (foam) (Class A, B)
  • ABC Powder (Class A, B, C)
  • CO2 (Class B)

In addition to these there are some specialist extinguishers that are designed to fight specific fire types:

  • Wet Chemical (Class F)
  • Class D Powder (Class D)
  • BC Powder (Class B, C)
  • Water mist (Class A, B, C, F)

How are fire extinguishers used?

Each extinguisher is designed to extinguish a fire in a specific way. Some remove the oxygen from the area, some remove the heat, others smother the fuel and separate it from sources of ignition. All extinguishers extinguish fire through one or more of the above methods.

Do I need a fire extinguisher?

If you have a business premise, you must take reasonable steps to ensure the prevention of fire and make sure people can safely escape in the event of a fire. Fire extinguishers are a critical component of this requirement. How many and what type you need are dependant on the size and use of the premises. Suffice to say extinguishers are required in every building from corner shops to nuclear power stations.

Fire extinguisher servicing

Extinguishers require an annual service to ensure they are still in good working condition. We can take the hassle out of this with a pre-planned annual maintenance schedule.
